France shuts up to 500 schools as student protests erupt over crumbling classrooms
Lessons will be totally or partly suspended at 400 to 500 French high schools on Monday after violent clashes between students and riot police. The revolt over teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms and run-down buildings has seen 24 schools burned or ransacked and 78 staff wounded.
