Israeli strikes kill five in Gaza as the ceasefire death toll climbs past 1,400
At least five Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza on Wednesday, medics said, as Gaza health officials put the number killed since the October 2025 US-brokered ceasefire at over 1,400 — mostly civilians.

Israeli strikes killed at least five Palestinians in two attacks in Gaza on Wednesday, medics said, deepening the crisis of a ceasefire that now stands as one of the deadliest truces in the strip's history.
An airstrike on a vehicle in the Tel al-Hawa neighbourhood of Gaza City killed four people and wounded 14, while an earlier strike on an apartment killed a woman, according to medics and hospital officials.
Gaza health officials say at least 1,400 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since the US-brokered ceasefire took effect in October 2025. The overall war toll has climbed above 74,000, the Associated Press reported late last month.
The Gaza government media office says Israel has logged 5,147 ceasefire violations — with more than 1,421 killed in those incidents — and that Israeli forces now control over half of the territory.
Israel says Hamas is rearming and violating the truce; Hamas denies the charge and accuses Israel of undermining the peace deal. Nearly every commitment beyond the guns falling silent has stalled: no Hamas disarmament, no new Palestinian administration, no reconstruction begun, and aid trucks entering the strip remain far below promised levels.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas disarms — a condition Hamas has rejected.
