No prima facie case against TVK's C. Vijayabaskar in ₹4-crore fraud complaint, police tell Madras High Court; plea closed
Police told the Madras High Court there was no prima facie evidence against TVK executive and former minister C. Vijayabaskar in a ₹4-crore fraud complaint, and the court closed the plea seeking action against him.

The Madras High Court on Thursday closed a plea arising from a ₹4-crore fraud complaint against C. Vijayabaskar, a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam executive and former minister, after the police submitted that no prima facie case had been made out against him.
According to reports, the complaint alleged fraud to the tune of ₹4 crore. The police, after examining the complaint, informed the court that the material on record disclosed no prima facie evidence against Vijayabaskar. Recording the submission, the court closed the plea.
Vijayabaskar, a former minister who now holds an executive position in the TVK, is among the high-profile figures whose legal battles have played out in the glare of Tamil Nadu's sharply polarised politics. The development was widely reported by Tamil news outlets on Thursday, with the DMK's IT wing also flagging the court's order.
The closure drew instant political reactions online. While TVK supporters welcomed it as vindication, critics revived the opposition's long-running "washing machine" jibe — the charge that corruption taints get laundered when leaders join the ruling dispensation. Neither the police submission nor the court's order addresses that political argument; both rest strictly on the evidence placed before the court.
